hgh‘s Sian Thomas, Bridget Miller, and Zoe Welman recently attended London’s Bridge Theatre to see Straight Line Crazy, David Hare’s scripted play about the infamous urban planner Robert Moses. Played by Ralph Fiennes, Moses shaped modern-day New York during the early to mid 20th century, as the city’s chief planner.

The play provides a fascinating insight into 20th-century urban planning and the car-orientated city, with many of the themes raised in the drama relatable to our day-to-day working life in planning. These include politics, bureaucracy, and local opposition.

The play raises some pertinent questions about what we want our urban environment to look like and its function.

The play is on until 24 June at the Bridge Theatre or you can catch it at the cinema as part of National Theatre Live.
